I love that Julio and his two older brothers are well behaved and work hard in school despite the absence of a father figure. So many stories use that as a starting point for a problem novel.
And even though it might be a bit unrealistic, I also love that Lucas and the class do the right thing by him, because he deserves it! The pacing is quick and the voice is true to life. It was also quite funny. I read this book to my son, who wants to be class president and also President of the United States someday. We didn't love this book.
I think we've just already outgrown it or something. We enjoyed the bake sale part and we liked the ending, and we were glad one of the kids' moms wasn't as mean not sure if mean is the word as she at first seemed. The ending was satisfactory, too.
