A film Walt liked very much and Gahagan was his admitted model. There were seven dwarfs in the title and Pinto Colvig voiced two-and-a-half of them. Pinto completely voiced both "Sleepy" and "Grumpy", but also voiced the hick-ups for "Dopey". According to several articles, something happened between Walt and Pinto, and he left Disney during and wouldn't start working again for the studio until Every site I have researched does not state what happened, and, in fact, they all have almost the exact wording to explain the parting of ways between the two men.
Here's a link to an example:. There were only two "Capital Theaters" on the "Warner Brothers" theater circuit, one located in Willimantic, Connecticut, and one in York, Pennsylvania. The problem here, is that, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", didn't go into general release until February 4, I can't explain the obvious discrepancy in the year Pinto and Walt parted ways, but I may have found the reason why.
I've already mentioned the feud between Walt Disney and Max Fleischer and voicing even one cartoon for Max, could have set off Walt. Anyway, for a very short time, Pinto joined the animation department at "Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer". However, going back to the story that Pinto wasn't working at Disney. Some articles explain this away, without stating the basis for the writer's response, by saying that Walt was reusing previously recorded voices, especially Pinto's "Goofy's", from already released cartoons, now designed to fit the new stories.
This allegedly included the three new cartoons with the "Three Little Pigs", that ended with "The Practical Pig", released on February 24, The above story has some traction, because at the start ofPinto moved his family to Miami, Florida, after accepting a contract with Max Fleischer, but conversely, he still had time to record the voices for Walt.
Unbeknown to Pinto, he was about to get further mixed up in "The Walt Disney, Max Fleischer Animation Feud", see my link above, that had started in and would end, suddenlyinbecause of one related person. Which of course doesn't work for long. Some sites state Pinto provided the voices for more than one "Munchkin" and it's his voice you basically hear in all the songs in "Munchkin Land".
Max Fleischer, like Walt Disney, envisioned the first full length animated motion picture back in Both unaware of, or ignoring 's "Creation".

Both animators became aware of the other's plans and a race seemed to start, but Max ran up against "Paramount Pictures", his distributor. However, after the success of Walt's "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", "Paramount" wanted a full-length animated feature of their own and gave Max Fleischer the go ahead for "Gulliver's Travels". When the story was first written, "Popeye the Sailor" would play "Gulliver".
The push by "Paramount" was happening while the "Fleischer Studio" was in the middle of relocating to Miami. The story would just tell of "Gulliver's", voiced by Sam Parker, adventures in the tiny kingdom of "Lilliput". The real stars of the film are the characters of the two lovers from the waring kingdoms, "Princess Glory", voiced by Livonia Warren and sung by Jessica Dragonette, and, "Prince David", voiced by Cal Howard, and sung by "Lanny Ross".
As Walt and the other East coast motion picture studios had done, because of the excellent weather. The fine and the move would contribute to the financial down trend of the Fleischer's leading to their eventual end as a studio. InPinto would voice "Gabby" in two cartoons, "King for a Day", released on October 18,and, "The Constable", released on November 15,that vance pinto colvig is better planned as a start of a new series.
Prior to "King for a Day", Pinto voiced sixteen other Fleischer cartoons, including six "Popeye" entries, but only five as "Bluto". Max couldn't form a new animation studio, because of the war need for military training films, not cartoons. Pinto's last cartoon voice work was for Walt Disney's "Goofy's Freeway Troubles", released on September 22,but nineteen-years earlier.
Pinto had created a live character that took him back to his childhood and his days with the "Al G. After marrying Margaret Slaven inhe settled with his wife in San Francisco, where four of their five boys were born. Colvig worked as a writer and cartoonist for the San Francisco Bulletin, drew Life on the Radio Wave a United Features Syndicate cartoon series for the Chronicleand worked in the infant field of film animation.
Early in the s, the Colvigs moved to Hollywood, where his career expanded. In the silent movie era, he wrote gags, titles, and scenarios for a number of films. Motion picture sound opened new avenues for Colvig. He was also first to play Bozo on television in State Univ. Archives, Harriet's Collec. All three cartoons are now apparently lost, though five frames of Creation survive among Pinto's papers at the Southern Oregon Historical Society in Medford, Oregon.
Pinto worked in the comedy factories as a gag man, scenarist and title writer for Mack Sennett, Jack White, Harold Lloyd and many others; he also often appeared before the silent camera in small comic roles. Then, as Pinto tells it, Mack Sennett gave the go-ahead to his suggestion for a cartoon gag in one of his short subjects. This introduced animation into live-action comedy and brought Pinto back to pen and ink, hand-drawing explosions or swarms of bees onto frames of celluloid to bedevil the live comedians.
The advent of sound drove Pinto from silent comedy to Walt Disney Studios, where he continued as a gag man, co-wrote "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf," and found yet another career in sound effects and character voices. He barked for Pluto and spoke for the Practical Pig, Grumpy and Sleepy, and was the voice of Goofy for the next thirty-five years.
Pinto also voiced Popeye's Bluto for Fleischer Studios and for decades produced a broad range of freelance voice work for radio, cartoons and film. Retrieved August 2, November 22, Jack Mercer, the Voice of Popeye.
